Reinforced Plates

The hammer-head plates with reinforced areas is a Continental Automotive System patent that has been developed in co-design together with the Util Group Engineering Team. The reinforced solution increases steel thickness locally in the backing plate, in order to strengthen the resistant section and widen the sliding surface in the Brake Caliper. It ensures necessary strength on the resistant section during the braking force while allowing steel thickness reduction. This leads to a decrease in pad and caliper weight, the overall weight of the floating masses, and consequently the cost of casting. The localized resistant section increase also reduces the pressure contact between the plate and caliper, improving relevant guidance and path. This technology is currently being used on many vehicles on the roads today and it is poised for strong growth.
